British Couple's Communication Cut Off While Imprisoned in Iran
Family of Lindsay and Craig Foreman report lost contact for over a week while imprisoned in Iran on espionage charges, raising safety concerns.
Concern Grows Over British Couple's Welfare
The family of British nationals Lindsay and Craig Foreman, imprisoned in Iran since January 2025 on charges of espionage, have expressed grave concerns for their wellbeing after reporting that all communication with them has been cut off for over a week. The couple, who were on a round-the-world motorcycle trip when detained, have been vocal about their innocence regarding the allegations against them.
Cut-Off Communication
According to family members, the couple's access to phone communication was severed following a media interview given by them earlier this month. Lindsay's son, Joe Bennett, revealed, "We simply do not know if my mum and Craig are safe." He added that the lack of contact is becoming increasingly distressing, stating, "Every day of silence makes it worse. We're terrified for them."
Craig Foreman had warned his family prior to the cut-off that a loss of communication could lead them to initiate a hunger strike. Joe noted, "Craig told us they might have to stop eating if their calls were taken away," highlighting the dire situation the couple faces as they seek to make their plight known.
Previous Assurances Violated
Lindsay and Craig's family has voiced feelings of abandonment, claiming that the couple has no way to make their voices heard while in prison. Reports indicate that they may face potential solitary confinement, with access to each other restricted. Previously, in November 2025, the couple started a hunger strike that concluded after they received written assurances that they could maintain contact with their family and see each other. These promises, their family asserts, have since been broken.
Government Involvement
The UK's Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office has been actively involved in seeking consular assistance for the Foreman couple. Efforts have included intervention by Britain's ambassador to Tehran, who has visit the couple in prison to facilitate calls with their family in the UK. A spokesperson from the Foreign Office articulated the government's stance, stating, "We consider Lindsay and Craig's incarceration unjustified and appalling. We will continue working to ensure they are returned safely to the UK."
As the situation evolves, the Foreman family's anguish is palpable, compounded by a lack of information regarding the couple's safety and health.
In their fight for justice and release, the couple's family continues to appeal to the international community and receive additional support, hoping that their voices will be heard amid the turmoil surrounding their loved ones' detention in Iran.
