Carlos Ulberg on ACL Recovery: 'Body is Healing Fast'; Paulo Costa Calls Out Khamzat Chimaev

Carlos Ulberg gives an optimistic update on his ACL recovery, while Paulo Costa aims for a match against Khamzat Chimaev in light heavyweight.

Carlos Ulberg's ACL Recovery Update

Carlos Ulberg, fresh off his victory at UFC 327 where he knocked out Jiri Prochazka to claim the UFC light heavyweight title, has recently undergone ACL surgery and is optimistic about his recovery. Despite the severity of his injury, which occurred during the title fight, Ulberg reported that his rehabilitation is progressing well, aided by the resources at the UFC Performance Institute.

Rehabilitation Journey

In a recent interview, Ulberg shared that just a week after his surgery, he is already seeing significant improvement. "I'm working with the PI. The staff here have been amazing. I'm just really positive about the progress and the rehab," he stated. Given the typical recovery timeline of six to eight months for ACL injuries, Ulberg’s early progress has brought hope to his team.

"With the progress that we've got at the moment, it's only been a week now, and we're moving pretty good. I think we've got a good formula going, and the body is healing really fast," Ulberg added. Both he and the medical staff are encouraged by the speedy recovery, emphasizing the importance of starting rehabilitation promptly after the surgery.

Future Plans

While Ulberg has not set a definitive timeline for his return to the octagon, his proactive approach and dedication to the rehabilitation process demonstrate his commitment to a swift comeback. "We've done it quickly and promptly, and then got on to the rehab as soon as we could. The staff has just been on me about it. We're doing two a day, and yeah, I think we'll be all right," he remarked.

Paulo Costa Eyes Khamzat Chimaev

In other UFC news, Paulo Costa has expressed a keen interest in facing middleweight champion Khamzat Chimaev. Known for his striking power, Costa, who has recently fought in the light heavyweight division, believes a meeting with Chimaev at 205 pounds would favor him significantly.

An Invitation to Move Up

Costa welcomed Chimaev's move up to light heavyweight, stating, "I just wish he would come to 205. I'm going to be here with my arms open, waiting for him. This is going to be even worse for him. At 205, I'm a monster." Emphasizing his belief in his strength at the higher weight class, Costa pointed out that he does not have to sacrifice muscle to make weight, giving him an edge in potential matchups.

"At 205, I have full 'secret juice' power. That is going to be tragic for him," Costa concluded, hinting at his physical readiness to take on Chimaev and asserting that he continues to be a formidable force within the division.

Conclusion

As Carlos Ulberg recovers from his ACL injury, his focus on rehabilitation remains strong, with positive feedback from his doctors. Meanwhile, Paulo Costa is ready and willing to engage Khamzat Chimaev, suggesting an exciting future matchup in the light heavyweight division. Fans of the UFC can look forward to potential bouts that could reshape the ranks within both the light heavyweight and middleweight classes.
