Dubai’s Community Development Authority (CDA) convened the third meeting of the Foster Families Committee, a crucial step in reinforcing the city’s alternative care system for children. Representatives from various government entities gathered to discuss strategies and improvements aimed at ensuring safe, nurturing family environments for youth in need.

Meeting Highlights

The Foster Families Committee plays a critical role in the oversight of foster care applications, ensuring compliance with established guidelines, and facilitating placement decisions. Under a comprehensive legislative framework, the committee works tirelessly to enhance the quality and efficiency of social services in Dubai.

The meeting saw participation from key institutional representatives, including members from Dubai Police General Headquarters, Dubai Health Authority, the Ministry of Education, Dubai Public Prosecution, and the Dubai Foundation for Women and Children, demonstrating a robust inter-agency collaboration.

Dr. Abdulaziz Al Hammadi, Chair of the Foster Families Committee, opened the proceedings by commending the active involvement of the committee members. He emphasized the importance of continued cooperation to foster the development of the alternative care system.

Key Discussions and Future Directions

The agenda included a review of the committee’s 2026 report, focusing on notable challenges and opportunities for improvement within the foster care sector. Maitha Al Shamsi, Executive Director of the Community Empowerment Sector, highlighted the alignment of strengthening the alternative family care system with Dubai’s social vision. This initiative is pivotal for fostering family stability and supporting developmental objectives, particularly during the “Year of Family.”

Dr. Al Hammadi, who also leads the Care and Rehabilitation Department, reiterated the authority’s commitment to an integrated alternative family care system through effective collaboration. He stressed the need for timely and quality decisions that ensure child welfare and stability in fostering arrangements.
