The 6-foot-3, 315-pound nose guard, who is a redshirt sophomore from Atlanta, had shown promise during the previous season, playing in three games and recording a tackle over 57 defensive snaps. His performance was seen as a stepping stone, with expectations that he would make a significant impact as a member of Clemson’s defensive lineup this fall.

Clemson's head coach Dabo Swinney expressed unwavering support for Brown-Shuler during this challenging time.

"The Clemson Family and the entire college football world are with Hevin as he begins treatment this month," Swinney stated in a public comment. "As a program, we'll wrap our arms around him and his family as he steps away from football temporarily to focus on his health. Brown-Shuler acknowledged the hard road ahead, confidently stating, "I know there is a long journey ahead, but I am encouraged by the outlook and surrounded by tremendous support from family, friends, teammates, and my communities. Thank you for your continued kindness and support. I can't wait to run down that hill and touch Howard’s Rock again for the 2027 football season."
