Former World No. 2 Ons Jabeur Welcomes First Child
Tennis star Ons Jabeur celebrates the birth of her son Elyan, sharing her joy with fans and colleagues.
Ons Jabeur Announces the Joyous Birth of Her Son
Former world number 2 tennis player Ons Jabeur joyfully announced on social media the birth of her first child, a son named Elyan, born on Sunday. The 31-year-old Tunisian star shared the happy news with her followers by posting a heartfelt message that read, "a little miracle, a life of love," alongside a touching family photo.
A Triumphant Return to Life and Career
Jabeur, who has been a prominent figure in women's tennis with three Grand Slam final appearances in 2022 and 2023, has not competed since June when she was forced to withdraw from her first-round match at Wimbledon against Bulgaria's Viktoriya Tomova. At that time, she was ranked 59th in the world.
In July, Jabeur announced her temporary withdrawal from the sport, later revealing her pregnancy in November. Her decision to step back was widely supported by fellow players and fans alike. After the birth of Elyan, many of her colleagues, including Caroline Garcia, Emma Raducanu, Karolina Muchova, and Coco Gauff, offered their warm congratulations.
Future Plans Amid Maternity Leave
As Jabeur prepares for her journey into motherhood, she will also be planning her return to professional tennis. Upon resuming her career, she will benefit from a protected ranking, allowing her to participate in tournaments without starting from scratch. Her protected ranking is expected to fall between 30th and 70th place, enabling her to enter up to 12 tournaments over the course of a year. This includes a maximum of five WTA 1000 events and two Grand Slam competitions.
Jabeur’s dual role as an athlete and new mother showcases the balance many women strive for in professional sports, and fans eagerly await her return to the courts as she embarks on this new chapter of her life.
