Infantino Opens World Cup: "Without Trump, This Wouldn't Have Been Possible"

FIFA's Gianni Infantino praises Trump’s support and welcomes Iran to the World Cup in an exciting ceremony in Mexico City.

Infantino's Inaugural Address at the World Cup

In a vibrant ceremony held in Mexico City, FIFA President Gianni Infantino officially inaugurated the World Cup, celebrating the collaboration between host nations and proudly announcing Iran’s participation in the global tournament. The event took place in the iconic Azteca Stadium, where tomorrow’s inaugural match will feature Mexico against South Africa.

Acknowledging Contributions and International Relations

Infantino expressed immense pride in bringing Iran to participate in the World Cup, stating, "If I had to travel by bus to Tehran to make this happen, I would have done so." He highlighted the supportive roles of the governments of the United States, Mexico, and Canada, asserting that their cooperation had already made the event a success by facilitating Iran’s participation.

Infantino also emphasized the significant role played by former President Donald Trump, stating, "I have a great relationship with President Trump. Without his commitment, it would have been impossible to organize this World Cup. He quickly understood the magnitude of a football World Cup."

The Spirit of the World Cup

While addressing the potential challenges of the event, including security measures and ticket pricing, Infantino maintained a hopeful outlook. He envisioned the tournament as potentially one of the most spectacular in history, putting forth a list of teams that could emerge victorious, including Spain, France, England, and Brazil.

"We aim for the World Cup to evoke happiness. If for those 90 minutes people can forget their daily worries, then we'll consider it a grand success," Infantino noted, emphasizing the emotional connection that football can create.
