Jaguars Win $30 Million Arbitration Battle Against Urban Meyer

The Jacksonville Jaguars won a major arbitration case against Urban Meyer, justifying his firing while retaining over $30 million owed under his contract.

Jaguars Prevail in Arbitration Against Urban Meyer

The Jacksonville Jaguars have emerged victorious in a significant arbitration case against former head coach Urban Meyer, successfully justifying the team's decision to terminate his contract for cause. This ruling, which could potentially save the franchise over $30 million, comes after a tumultuous 11-month tenure for Meyer, marked by various allegations of misconduct and poor performance on the field.

The Grounds for Termination

Meyer, who was hired in January 2021 amidst high hopes, faced multiple controversies during his brief time with the Jaguars. Shortly after his appointment, the team was fined $300,000 for violating the NFL's practice contact rules, with Meyer personally incurring a $100,000 fine.

Notably, his off-field behavior raised eyebrows, notably when he failed to travel back with the team following a Thursday night game against the Cincinnati Bengals. Instead, he was photographed at a bar in Columbus, Ohio, with a woman who was not his wife. Following this incident, Meyer admitted to the team that he had become a "distraction," ultimately leading to his dismissal.

Allegations of Misconduct

Various accusations surfaced during his time at the Jaguars, culminating in testimony during the arbitration process from players including punter Logan Cooke and former kicker Josh Lambo. Lambo notably accused Meyer of kicking him during a practice, a claim that later contributed to the rationale behind the coach's firing.
