Orange Beach High School Claims Historic Sixth Consecutive Softball Championship

Orange Beach High School clinches a historic sixth straight softball title with a 6-0 win, showcasing exceptional talent and teamwork.

Historic Victory for Orange Beach High School Softball

The Orange Beach High School Makos have made history by winning their sixth consecutive Alabama High School Athletic Association (AHSAA) Class 4A State Softball Championship, triumphing over Plainview in a decisive 6-0 victory. This remarkable achievement not only secures their place in the state’s sports records but also highlights their dominant performance throughout the season.

Dominance in the Postseason

The Makos showcased incredible skill and teamwork during their postseason run, allowing a mere two runs in total. Their remarkable journey included a shutout against West Limestone in the first round, ending 2-0, followed by a 12-0 victory over American Christian Academy. This defensive prowess exemplifies the team’s commitment to excellence and strategy on the field.

Key Players Shine

Sophomore MK McMullan stood out in the finals, allowing only four hits while striking out four and contributing three RBIs at the plate, finishing 2-for-3 with a double. McMullan's performance has been a cornerstone of the team's success this season, as Coach Shane Alexander noted:

"We’ve talked about chasing history all year. We wanted to get that six not just for the senior; we wanted to be on the top of that leaderboard. I don’t think people really understand the work that goes into this. These girls put in a lot of hours."

Among the other standout performances, senior Addy Oldham added a triple, while teammates Katie King and Ava Hodo each contributed an RBI. Hodo expressed confidence in the team’s abilities, stating, "We always knew that we would come out with a win as long as we just kept working together."

Season Overview and Statistics

Throughout the season, the Makos encountered only one loss to South Warren, the top-ranked team from Kentucky, which ended with a score of 6-1. However, the Makos reclaimed their top position in the High School On SI National Top 25 Rankings, currently holding the fifth spot.

Individual performances were impressive, with several players excelling. Senior Katie King led the team with a .536 batting average and 17 home runs. McMullan and fellow teammates Teagan Revette also contributed with 13 homers each, while Hodo showcased remarkable ability, driving in 68 runs with 12 home runs.

Veteran Experience in Championship Success

Two of the current seniors, Revette and Hodo, were fundamental members of the very first championship team six years ago, illustrating both their personal growth and the enduring legacy of the program. They have now contributed to every state title, solidifying their legacy in Alabama high school sports.

The Makos' gripping journey to their sixth championship title reflects not only their athletic skill but also the dedication and perseverance within the team, setting a new standard for excellence in high school softball.
