Diplomatic Efforts with Iran
U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio expressed optimism regarding the possibility of reaching a beneficial agreement with Iran during a press conference in New Delhi. Speaking on Monday, he stated that the United States either will forge a good agreement or will handle the situation with Iran in a different manner.
According to Rubio, the U.S. is committed to giving diplomacy every chance to succeed before exploring alternative approaches. He noted the substantial potential for significant nuclear negotiations, emphasizing the urgency to engage in meaningful and time-sensitive discussions concerning Iran’s nuclear program.
Possibility of Ending the War
Rubio highlighted that an agreement to end hostilities with Iran could be achieved in the near future. "There is a strong opportunity here regarding their ability to reopen negotiations on the nuclear issue, and we hope that we can accomplish this," he remarked. Rubio’s assertions come amidst heightened tensions surrounding Iran's nuclear ambitions and its regional influence.
Israel's Right to Self-Defense
In light of the ongoing tensions with Hezbollah, Rubio reaffirmed Israel's right to defend itself. He stated unequivocally, "Israel always has the right to protect itself. If Hezbollah launches rockets or missiles toward it, Israel has every right to respond." His comments reflect the U.S. stance on the importance of Israel's security amid regional threats, reinforcing the idea that self-defense is paramount.
Rubio concluded his statements by highlighting the potential for new developments regarding the Iran agreement, saying, "We thought there may be some news last night, perhaps today," hinting at ongoing negotiations. As he wrapped up his official visit to India, his remarks on Iran and Israel underscored the United States' diplomatic goals in the region.
