Allyson Felix Makes Bold Olympic Comeback at Age 40 for 2028 Games

At 40, Allyson Felix is coming out of retirement to pursue her dream of competing in the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics, her hometown Games.

Allyson Felix's Comeback Journey to the 2028 Olympics

Allyson Felix, renowned as the most decorated female track athlete in Olympic history, is making headlines with her ambition to compete in the upcoming 2028 Los Angeles Olympics, despite being 40 years old. After initially retiring following the 2021 Tokyo Olympics, where she clinched her 11th Olympic medal, Felix found fresh motivation to return to the track.

Inspired by Hometown Pride

Following her retirement, Felix believed she had achieved everything a track athlete could hope for. Her last Olympic appearance brought her a bronze medal in the 400 meters and a gold in the 400-meter relay. Yet, the anticipation surrounding the 2028 Games, set in her native Los Angeles, rekindled her competitive spirit.

"This is a once-in-a-lifetime homecoming," Felix expressed in a presentation shared with her brother and business partner, Wes. It is this very connection to her hometown that she cites as a driving force behind her decision to attempt a comeback.

Acknowledging the Challenge

Felix knows that competing at 42 will not be without its challenges. Although she is aware her physical peak may be behind her, she feels compelled to pursue this dream, admitting she would regret not trying. With the example of other elite athletes like Tom Brady and Lindsey Vonn, who have excelled into their forties, Felix remains hopeful but realistic.

"I know, at 40, I am not at my peak," she stated. "I have no illusions about that. I'm very clear in what it is and what I want to see. And so, I hope it's seen that way."

Training Plans Ahead

As she gears up for her comeback, Felix and her coach, Bobby Kersee, are set to initiate a comprehensive training program beginning in October. Although she does not plan to compete regularly on the global circuit, she aims to participate in various races leading up to the Olympic trials to secure her spot for the Games.

Felix hopes to be ready for competition by 2027, demonstrating her commitment and determination to not only return to form but to inspire others along the way. Her story is one of resilience, showcasing that age is just a number when it comes to pursuing one’s dreams.
