Apple enthusiasts have something to look forward to as Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman reports on the anticipated release of a refreshed Apple TV 4K and HomePod mini this fall. With hardware reportedly ready for months and in testing by Apple employees, both devices are positioned for a much-anticipated update.

Expected Hardware Improvements

In Gurman's latest edition of the Power On newsletter, he noted that the updated Apple TV 4K and the HomePod mini were initially slated to launch alongside an improved Siri. However, delays have pushed back the release of these devices until this fall, coinciding with the upcoming rollout of Apple’s updated voice assistant.

These upcoming refreshes are expected to feature newer chips to enhance performance. The Apple TV 4K's last significant update was in 2022 when it was equipped with the A15 Bionic chip, a direct competitor to chips found in the latest smart devices like the Google TV Streamer and Roku Ultra. As for the HomePod mini, which debuted in late 2020, it saw a minimal cosmetic update earlier this year with the introduction of a new midnight color.

Design Changes Yet to Be Confirmed

While Gurman suggests that major design changes should not be expected, there might be some minor tweaks, particularly to the Apple TV remote. Such enhancements are likely to focus on ergonomics and user experience rather than a comprehensive redesign.

The emphasis on internal testing suggests that Apple is confident in the hardware's readiness, although it has kept these updates on hold pending the perfect timing to debut alongside the new Siri enhancements.

The delay in releasing the new Apple TV 4K and HomePod mini has been attributed to the rocky launch of Apple’s updated Siri with Apple Intelligence. Gurman highlighted that both devices were intended to debut alongside the revamped voice assistant.
