Bot-detection Startup Spur Secures $200M Funding from Insight Partners

Spur Intelligence lands $200M in funding to combat increasing bot traffic challenges in cybersecurity.

Spur Intelligence Raises $200M to Tackle Bot Detection in Cybersecurity

Spur Intelligence, a cybersecurity startup based in Lake Mary, Florida, has successfully secured a substantial $200 million funding round led by Insight Partners. Founded in 2017 by former engineers from the Defense Department, the company specializes in developing technologies to detect and mitigate bot traffic, which has become a major concern for enterprises navigating today's complex cybersecurity landscape.

Growing Challenges in Cybersecurity

With the rise of sophisticated criminal operations, the ability to distinguish genuine human users from malicious bots has never been more critical. According to Insight’s Thomas Krane, the current cybersecurity environment has created a significant blind spot for organizations. While they can track activity, the underlying infrastructure that drives this activity often goes unnoticed.

“Organizations are increasingly operating with a critical blind spot: they can see the activity, but not the infrastructure behind it,” Krane remarked. The challenge is further compounded by the fact that, as of mid-2026, bot traffic is now reportedly more prevalent on the internet than human traffic for the first time in history, according to Cloudflare.

Surge in Bot Traffic

Cloudflare’s founder and CEO, Matthew Prince, noted the rapid growth of bot activity, indicating it exceeded human internet traffic much sooner than anticipated. "Thought it would be end of 2027, then early 2027, but agentic traffic growing so fast that bots have now passed human traffic online for the first time in the Internet’s history," Prince shared via an update on social media last month.

This shift presents unique challenges as businesses now face increased threats from disingenuous traffic, ranging from autonomous bots conducting attacks to fake users inflating engagement metrics. Spur Intelligence aims to equip companies with better tools to identify these threats effectively.

The Road Ahead for Spur Intelligence

With this new funding, Spur Intelligence is poised to enhance its technology and expand its market presence, addressing the evolving needs of businesses grappling with malicious online activities. As they confront the increasing sophistication of cyber threats, organizations will turn to innovative solutions like those offered by Spur to maintain robust cybersecurity defenses.

Spur's development comes at a crucial time when companies must adapt to a rapidly changing digital landscape marked by the rise of automation and bot usage, making this funding round a significant milestone in advancing cybersecurity tactics against a backdrop of escalating online threats.
