Dubai Police Intensifies Crackdown on Reckless Driving Amid Rainfall

Dubai Police has intensified its crackdown on reckless driving during rainfall, impounding vehicles and urging public cooperation for road safety.

Introduction

Dubai Police has launched a significant crackdown on reckless driving, particularly during recent rainfall. Authorities have impounded several vehicles involved in dangerous stunts and reckless behavior on the roads, as detailed in an official media release.

Recent Incidents of Reckless Driving

Actions Taken by Dubai Police

Brigadier Jumaa Salem bin Suwaidan, Director of the General Department of Traffic, stated that the police patrols identified numerous instances of motorists engaging in drifting, sudden swerving, and other disruptive behaviors that pose serious risks in wet conditions.

He noted that such reckless behaviors can significantly increase the danger on slippery roads, where reduced tire grip heightens the likelihood of losing control, potentially leading to severe accidents with serious injuries or fatalities.

Areas Affected

Violations have been particularly noted in regions such as Al Ruwayyah and Lahbab, where offending vehicles have been seized, and legal consequences have been enacted against the drivers. Offenses include reckless driving, excessive noise, and performing stunts, with potential impound release fees soaring to AED 50,000 under Decree No. 30 of 2023.

Call for Road Safety

Brigadier bin Suwaidan has urged all drivers to adhere strictly to traffic laws, especially during inclement weather. He emphasized the importance of reducing speed, maintaining safe distances between vehicles, and ensuring that vehicles, particularly tires, are in optimal condition.

Reporting Reckless Driving

To promote a culture of road safety, the public is encouraged to report any instances of dangerous driving through the Police Eye app or by contacting the authorities at 901. Brigadier bin Suwaidan reassured that Dubai Police is committed to intensifying traffic patrols throughout the emirate and will continue to enforce strict measures against any behavior that jeopardizes road safety.
