Stellar Pitching Sends Bulldogs to Championship

AKRON, Ohio – Emma Brandt delivered a standout performance in the OHSAA Division III state semifinals, pitching a one-hitter and striking out 10 batters to lead the Bloom-Carroll Bulldogs to a thrilling 2-1 victory over the Greenville team. This significant win propels the Bulldogs to their first state championship game appearance since 2015, where they will face Louisville.

Perfect Until the Last Inning

Through six innings, Brandt was flawless, maintaining a perfect game against a Greenville offense known for scoring over ten runs per contest. However, the perfect game ended abruptly at the start of the seventh inning when Greenville shortstop Leah Force launched a home run over the left field fence, narrowing Bloom-Carroll’s lead to 2-1.

Brandt, undeterred by the home run, quickly regained her focus, retiring the next three batters with a combination of skillful pitching, including a pivotal groundout and two strikeouts. "I just kept throwing. I focused more on my spin than my speed, and it worked," Brandt noted after the game.

Contributing on Offense

In addition to her impressive pitching, Brandt made her presence felt offensively. She drove in the first run for Bloom-Carroll in the opening frame with an RBI triple and later scored the second run on a sacrifice fly by catcher Addison Brown.
