Hannah Green Claims Third JM Eagle LA Championship Title in Four Years

Hannah Green clinched her third JM Eagle LA Championship title, sinking a crucial birdie in the playoff after trailing Sei Young Kim.

Hannah Green Triumphs at the JM Eagle LA Championship

In a thrilling finish, Hannah Green emerged victorious at the JM Eagle LA Championship on Sunday, marking her third win at this tournament in just four years. Green showcased her tenacity and skill, sinking a 12-foot birdie putt on the first playoff hole to claim the title at El Caballero, overcoming a six-stroke deficit to playing partner Sei Young Kim.

A Comeback for the Ages

Starting the day behind by two shots, Green found herself six strokes adrift at one point during the round. However, she put together a remarkable performance, carding a 4-under 68, bringing her total to 17-under 271. This effort put her in a tie with Kim (who shot 70) and Jin Hee Im (67), forcing a playoff that would determine the winner.

Green described her winning putt as a familiar challenge, referencing a similar line she had earlier in regulation. "I felt somewhat comfortable," she noted after the match. "It still was a tough putt, so really glad it went in the hole."

Playoff Drama Unfolds

The playoff took place on the par-4 18th hole, where Green hit a wedge from 130 yards to set up her crucial birdie attempt. Kim had struggled on the back nine, allowing Green to catch up after a series of strong play including birdies on holes 13 through 16. Kim, who had led by three strokes with nine holes remaining, expressed her disappointment in missing out on the win, acknowledging Green’s impressive finish.

Green, who now has eight career LPGA victories, is among only two two-time winners on the tour this season, alongside Hyo Joo Kim. Her recent successes include triumphs at both the HSBC Women's World Championship and the Women's Australian Open earlier this year.

Looking Forward

The tournament was held at El Caballero for the second consecutive year due to ongoing renovations at Wilshire Country Club. Looking ahead, golfers will shift focus to the Chevron Championship, the first women's major of the year, set to begin this Thursday in Houston.

In a competitive field, other notable performances included former UCLA star Patty Tavatanakit and amateur Asterisk Talley, who tied for 13th place. The atmosphere was electric as players, including Talley, sought to glean valuable experience from competing at this level.

Green's achievement at the JM Eagle LA Championship further solidifies her status in the LPGA Tour, and as she gears up for the Chevron Championship, all eyes will be on her as she aims to continue her winning streak.
