Padraig Harrington has officially been named the third vice-captain for Team Europe in the upcoming 2027 Ryder Cup, scheduled to take place at Adare Manor in Ireland. Harrington joins the Molinari brothers, Edoardo and Francesco, in a leadership role as the team looks to secure a third consecutive victory against Team USA.
A Welcomed Return to the Ryder Cup
Luke Donald, who serves as the captain for Team Europe, highlighted Harrington's wealth of experience and deep connections with Irish fans as pivotal elements that will enhance the team’s morale. Harrington, a celebrated figure in Irish golf and a three-time major champion, has played a critical role in six previous Ryder Cups. He expressed gratitude for the opportunity to contribute to this cherished event once again, especially in his home country.
Harrington stated, "The Ryder Cup has been a special part of my life. Representing Europe has always been one of the highlights of my golfing career, and to be able to do it again in this situation, especially in Ireland, is special."
Harrington's Impressive Ryder Cup Legacy
Having made his Ryder Cup debut in 1999, Harrington went on to participate in five more editions, contributing significantly to Team Europe’s success in 2002, 2004, 2006, and 2010. Throughout his career, he has amassed a total of 10½ points for the team.
Harrington's vice-captain roles date back to 2014 under the leadership of Paul McGinley and he has continued to support the team in subsequent tournaments, showcasing his dedication to the event.

Reflecting on his recent appointment, Harrington said, "Luke and I arranged to meet up at The Open and chatted about it, and we felt we could strike up a good team again. I’m very happy to be part of it." Donald, who previously served as Harrington's vice-captain in 2021, believes that bringing Harrington into the mix will amplify the energy and excitement surrounding the competition.
Donald noted, "He brings a wealth of experience, and I do love the fact that there's a connection. He understands the Irish crowds and all that goes with having a Ryder Cup in Ireland. Overall, I think it will be a spectacular occasion and one of the great sporting events to be played in the country."
