Huskies Secure Commitment from Four-Star Edge Rusher Chaz Gray

Chaz Gray, a four-star edge rusher from New Jersey, commits to UW over top programs such as Tennessee and Clemson as their 18th recruit for 2025.

Chaz Gray Commits to the Huskies

In a significant boost for their recruiting class, the University of Washington has successfully secured a commitment from Chaz Gray, a four-star edge rusher from St. Joseph Regional High School in New Jersey. The 6-foot-4, 250-pound athlete chose the Huskies over prominent programs such as Tennessee and Clemson, marking a crucial addition for UW as they build their roster for the future.

Gray made his announcement earlier this week, solidifying his commitment to the Huskies after a visit to Seattle that left a lasting impression. He is the 18th recruit for Washington's 2025 class, and he brings considerable talent to the defensive lineup, following edge rusher Matamatagi Uiagalelei from Mater Dei High in California.

Impressive Stats and Offers

Chaz Gray’s high school career has been marked by consistent performance and growing interest among top college programs. Notably, he has received 24 offers across his recruitment journey, which also included notable institutions like Notre Dame, Georgia, and Ohio State. Last season, Gray showcased his skills with impressive statistics, totaling 40 tackles, 6.5 tackles for loss, and 3.5 sacks, helping lead his team to a 10-2 record.

In a memorable game against DePaul Catholic this past October, Gray’s defensive prowess was on full display as he recorded three tackles and a quarterback hurry, playing a key role in his team's decisive victory.

A New Journey Begins in Seattle

Having grown up about 31 miles from New York City, Gray's journey from the bustling environment of Montvale, NJ, to Seattle is a significant transition. UW Recruitment has clearly recognized his potential and talent, as they began pursuing him long before his commitment, extending an offer as early as January 29, 2025.

With six consecutive commitments from four-star recruits, Head Coach Jedd Fisch seems to have established a promising recruiting strategy that could elevate the program’s success in the coming years. Gray's recruitment decision indicates a rising trend for UW, aiming to bolster their defense while competing with several elite programs.
