Jacksonville Jaguars Set for Unique October with No Home Games
The Jacksonville Jaguars will play an entire month away from home this October as their stadium undergoes renovations.
Jaguars' Unprecedented October Schedule
The Jacksonville Jaguars are gearing up for an unusual month as they will not play a single game at home during October. This marks a rare occurrence in the NFL, as teams typically do not go an entire month without playing in their home stadium. The Jaguars will embark on a lengthy road trip, which includes a game in Cincinnati and two international matches in London. This unique schedule has been orchestrated to accommodate major renovations currently taking place at their home stadium.
Schedule Breakdown
The Jaguars’ October itinerary is as follows:
- Week 4 (Oct. 4): at Cincinnati Bengals
- Week 5 (Oct. 11): vs. Philadelphia Eagles (in London)
- Week 6 (Oct. 18): vs. Houston Texans (in London)
- Week 7 (Oct. 25): Bye week
Notably, Jacksonville’s last game on home turf will be on October 1 against the Atlanta Falcons, and they will return to Jacksonville on November 1 to face the Indianapolis Colts.
Historical Context
This is not the first instance where an NFL team has faced a month without home games. Seven years ago, both the Cardinals and Jaguars experienced similar stretches in November. The Arizona Cardinals had a tough time, losing all of their away games during a month-long road trip, which ultimately hurt their season. The Jaguars themselves also struggled during a similar stretch in 2019, failing to secure a win during their October matches away from home.
A Newly Minted Home Team in London
For this year’s expedition, the Jaguars will play in London as the home team for both matchups, a first in NFL history for back-to-back international games. The Jaguars have been committed to international play, and this strategic move allows them to maintain a strong presence overseas.
Reasons Behind the Road Trip
Interestingly, the Jaguars have requested this extended road trip to facilitate the ambitious $1.4 billion renovation of their stadium. By leaving town, construction crews will have uninterrupted access to complete significant updates without the concern of game-day disruptions. The final phase of this renovation is projected to continue until 2027.
The Jaguars are expected to face a challenging month that could influence their season's trajectory. Fans will be eagerly awaiting their return on November 1, when they hope to carry fresh momentum back into Jacksonville against the Colts.
