King Charles Reflects on His Mother's Legacy

In a heartfelt video message, King Charles commemorated what would have been the 100th birthday of his mother, Queen Elizabeth II, noting her deep commitment to public service. Memorial Plans Announced

To honor the late Queen's storied life, several memorial projects have been announced, including a traditional bronze statue to be erected in St James's Park. The statue, set to be sculpted by Martin Jennings, depicts her in her younger years wearing the ceremonial robes of the Order of the Garter. It will measure 9.84ft (3m) tall and sit on an 11.15ft (3.4m) plinth, designed to be unveiled exactly 100 years after her birth on April 21, 1926.

Lord Janvrin, chairman of the Queen Elizabeth Memorial Committee, stated that the statue aims to reflect her sense of duty and dedication to the public, contrasting with other concepts that could have showcased her personal passions.

Additional Memorials and Digital Legacy

The St James's Park project will not only feature the statue of Queen Elizabeth II but also a bust representing her later years and a bronze statue of Prince Philip. Alongside these sculptures, plans include the reconstruction of a bridge with a glass balustrade reminiscent of a royal tiara. Completion is anticipated within two years.

Moreover, a digital component to the memorial aims to create a historical archive where the public can share their memories of the Queen. The website was previously owned by Cunard but has now been dedicated to the Queen Elizabeth II memorial, providing a digital repository of experiences surrounding her reign.

A new Queen Elizabeth Trust will also be established to support local community projects that foster unity among citizens, further extending her legacy of service.
