Manchester City Considers Legal Action Against Real Madrid Presidential Candidate Over Haaland Comments

City is considering legal action against a Real Madrid presidential candidate after he promised to sign Haaland if elected.

Manchester City May Sue Real Madrid Presidential Hopeful

Manchester City is evaluating the possibility of legal action against Enrique Requiemi, a candidate vying for the presidency of Real Madrid. Requiemi controversially claimed that, if elected, he would sign star striker Erling Haaland from City, prompting the current champions to issue a statement refuting these claims.

City’s Firm Denial

In a statement released to the press, Manchester City emphasized, "The stories emerging from Spain regarding Erling Haaland’s future are incorrect. There is no chance of this happening, and no contractual clause allows for such a transfer." City expressed their concern over the unauthorized use of their player's image in context to these claims and indicated that they are contemplating legal options to address this situation.

Haaland, the Norwegian forward who has been instrumental for City, is under contract with the club until 2034, solidifying his place in the team.

Requiemi’s Bold Promise

In an interview on the Spanish program Hormiguero, Requiemi went further, stating, "If I fail to deliver on any of my promises related to signing Rodri and Haaland from Manchester City, I have signed a guarantee that should I neglect my duties, I will pay 100% of membership fees for the following season." This statement underlines Requiemi’s intentions to attract support while presenting his election manifesto.

Real Madrid’s Election Landscape

Requiemi is contesting against incumbent president Florentino Perez, who has already made headlines by appointing Jose Mourinho as the new manager for Real Madrid. Additionally, reports suggest that Perez has ambitions to secure Ibrahima Konaté in a free transfer as part of his campaign promises.

Requiemi also expressed admiration for Rodri, stating, "He is an excellent player in a position we need to reinforce. We have spoken with his agent; we must respect his club, but if I were president, he would play for Real Madrid. I will do my utmost to secure his signing."

Upcoming Presidential Elections

The presidential elections for Real Madrid are scheduled for June 7, 2026. Approximately 100,000 club members are expected to participate in voting for a new president. Requiemi plans to declare his chosen head coach, distinct from Mourinho, by June 5th, highlighting his intention to create a unique vision for Madrid under his leadership.

As the election date approaches, the drama between Manchester City and Real Madrid adds an intriguing layer to the ongoing transfer rumors and club dynamics.
