Mansell: 'Reinvigorated' Hamilton is Fired Up Again
Lewis Hamilton's renewed vigor this season has caught attention, with former champion Mansell believing victory is within reach for the Ferrari driver.
Hamilton's Strong Start in 2026 Season
In a remarkable turnaround, Lewis Hamilton is feeling "reinvigorated" in the 2026 Formula 1 season after securing his first podium finish with Ferrari at the recent Chinese Grand Prix, where he finished third. This accomplishment marks a significant moment for the seven-time world champion, ending a 16-month drought without reaching the podium.
Mansell's Encouraging Take
Former Formula 1 world champion Nigel Mansell expressed his enthusiasm for Hamilton's performance, stating that the British driver is "fired up again". Mansell attributes Hamilton's renewed energy to improvements in the car's setup that align with his driving style, highlighting the positive impact of the new regulations introduced this year.
"Lewis has had a brilliant career and it's fantastic what he's doing. He’s now reinvigorated. Ferrari has done a fabulous job over the winter," Mansell stated in an interview with Sky Sports News. According to Mansell, the competitive edge shown by Ferrari this season could see Hamilton challenging for race wins.
Hamilton’s Adaptation to Ferrari
Reflecting on his adaptation to the Ferrari team, Hamilton noted that his debut season in 2025 did not allow him the opportunity to contribute to the car's development. He expressed how crucial the latest modifications are, stating, "When I joined Ferrari last year, I had nothing to do with any of the build on that car. It was a car not really built for me and didn’t suit my driving style."
The improvements implemented for this season have made a noticeable difference, leading Hamilton to assert that both he and teammate Charles Leclerc are enjoying the changes. "We have a couple things I asked for, which I'm grateful that they listened to," he added.
The Road Ahead: Miami Grand Prix
Looking forward, the Formula 1 season will continue with the Miami Grand Prix from May 1-3, which will feature a Sprint weekend format. Hamilton’s performance, alongside the stable form of competitors like Mercedes and the rising star Kimi Antonelli, promises an exciting contest ahead in the championship.
Mansell also commented on the evolving landscape of the competition, emphasizing the need for drivers like George Russell to assert their authority within their respective teams. With the season still unfolding, every race presents an opportunity for Hamilton to capitalize on his renewed vigor and the advantageous developments from Ferrari.
As the teams gear up for the next challenge in Miami, all eyes will undoubtedly be on Hamilton to see if he can further harness this newfound energy and potential for victory.
