Mobileye Enters US Robotaxi Market with New Service Initiative

Mobileye is launching a robotaxi service in the US by 2027, starting with 100 vehicles using its Moovit platform for bookings.

Introduction to Mobileye's Robotaxi Initiative

Mobileye, the Israeli technology company known for its advancements in autonomous driving systems, is making significant strides in the transportation sector. The company has announced plans to introduce a robotaxi service in the United States by 2027, starting with approximately 100 self-driving vehicles. This move is a pivotal moment for Mobileye, which has dedicated more than 20 years to developing the necessary technologies for autonomous driving.

Moovit Integration for Enhanced Mobility

The upcoming robotaxi service will utilize Mobileye's Moovit platform, a mobility solution that facilitates ride bookings and coordination between passengers and vehicles. By vertically integrating this platform, Mobileye aims to provide a seamless experience for users, ensuring efficient ride-sharing capabilities from the moment a ride is booked to the arrival of the vehicle.

Prof. Amnon Shashua, the founder and CEO, emphasized the significance of this initiative: "Mobileye has spent more than two decades building the technologies required for autonomous driving. Today we are taking the next step: combining those technologies with operational ownership to create a financially and geographically scalable robotaxi business designed from the ground up for global deployment."

Background and Expertise in Autonomous Driving

Mobileye gained notoriety in the mid-2010s when it partnered with Tesla, supplying advanced driving assistance systems (ADAS) for Tesla's Autopilot feature. However, this relationship ended in 2016 due to safety concerns about how Tesla marketed these technologies. Since then, Mobileye has continued its commitment to innovation in autonomous driving, collaborating with various partners and developing state-of-the-art ADAS and autonomous vehicle technologies.

Future Prospects

With the planned rollout of the robotaxi service, Mobileye is poised to make a significant impact in the US ride-sharing market. As the company transitions into operational ownership of its autonomous fleet, it aims to ensure a successful and scalable operation. The integration of its Moovit platform signals a commitment to not only technological advancement but also customer-centric service in the rapidly evolving landscape of transportation.
