Netanyahu Hails Heroism of Stabbed Indian Pilot Who Saved Passengers on Flydubai Flight

Israeli PM Netanyahu commends Captain Smit Machchhar for his bravery after a co-pilot's attack on a Flydubai flight, saving 174 lives.

Netanyahu Praises Indian Pilot for Life-Saving Actions

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu expressed his gratitude toward Captain Smit Machchhar, the Indian pilot who dramatically thwarted a potential tragedy on a Flydubai flight bound for Tel Aviv. In a social media post, Netanyahu hailed Machchhar's actions as "extraordinary bravery" in the face of a life-threatening attack.

The Incident on Flydubai Flight FZ1073

On Wednesday morning, during the flight from Dubai to Tel Aviv, Machchhar was stabbed by his co-pilot in what is believed to be an attempt to seize control of the aircraft. Despite suffering severe injuries, the pilot managed to open the cockpit door, enabling passengers and crew members to subdue the assailant before further harm could be done.

Netanyahu emphasized that Machchhar's quick thinking saved the lives of all 174 individuals on board, which included a number of Israeli citizens. "He fought back, resisted, opened the cockpit door, and enabled passengers and crew to overpower the attacker – preventing a catastrophic mid-air disaster," the prime minister commented.

Immediate Response and Aftermath

The conflict prompted an immediate emergency alert, compelling the aircraft to land at Saudi Arabia's Tabuk airport, where the crew and passengers were safely evacuated. Following the landing, authorities apprehended the co-pilot, whose identity has not been disclosed.

India's embassy in Riyadh reported that Captain Machchhar was admitted to a hospital in Tabuk and is currently receiving medical treatment. According to their update, he is stable and recovering after the traumatic experience.

Rescue and Support for Passengers

A rescue flight organized by Flydubai later transported all passengers to their intended destination, arriving at Tel Aviv's Ben Gurion Airport. Netanyahu personally welcomed the passengers upon their arrival, a move some political opponents criticized as a publicity stunt ahead of the upcoming elections.

In his statement, the Israeli Prime Minister reinforced the message of heroism, calling Machchhar "a true hero" and wishing him a swift recovery from his injuries.

With the incident highlighting significant issues surrounding flight safety, both Israeli and Indian authorities continue to monitor the situation closely, keeping the public informed about Commander Machchhar's health and the investigation into the attack.
