Somerset Stars Excel at 2026 PCA Awards

In a remarkable night for Somerset cricket, duo Craig Overton and Sophie Luff clinched the prestigious Player of the Year awards at the 2026 PCA Awards held at Exhibition White City. Overton was honored as the PCA Men's Player of the Year, marking a significant achievement for the first time since Nick Compton in 2012, while Luff received the PCA Women's Player of the Year award, becoming the first winner without international experience since 2021.

Craig Overton's Award-Winning Season

Overton, 32, delivered an exceptional season, scoring a total of 951 runs and taking 76 wickets across all formats. His impressive performances included a memorable inning of unbeaten 79 during the Vitality Blast quarter-finals, which propelled Somerset to Finals Day. Overton's accolades at the PCA Awards also included the PCA Men's Domestic Overall MVP, Rothesay County Championship Player of the Year, and a place in the IG PCA Men's Team of the Year.

"It's a phenomenal feeling to be chosen by your peers for this award; it truly means a lot to me," Overton reflected on his win. He expressed pride in his consistent performances throughout the season, attributing his success to being in good mental and physical shape despite the rigorous schedule.

Sophie Luff's Impact

Luff, Somerset's captain, has been a standout performer, accumulating over 1,000 runs this summer, showcasing her skills not only for her county but also in the Hundred, where she secured a championship title with Trent Rockets. Luff shared her delight at winning the award, emphasizing the importance of being recognized by her teammates.

"It’s super special for people to vote for me based on my performances. It shows that I’m on the right path and having an impact this season," Luff said, highlighting her commitment to leading by example in her role.

Young Stars Shine Bright

The evening also celebrated young talent, with Sonny Baker from Hampshire winning the Toyota PCA Men's Young Player of the Year award. Baker made his Test debut and showcased impressive form with ten international wickets in the past year, becoming the first Hampshire player to receive this honor since its inception in 1990.

Similarly, Tilly Corteen-Coleman claimed the Toyota PCA Women's Young Player of the Year, demonstrating her capability in both IT20s and ODIs for England, while impressing in domestic competitions.
