At least 21 people lost their lives when a crowded passenger bus skidded off a road into a gorge in Jammu and Kashmir. This tragic incident occurred around 8:30 AM local time on Monday near Kanote village in the Udhampur district. The bus, which was meant to transport over 60 passengers from Ramnagar to Udhampur, encountered a sharp curve and collided with an autorickshaw, resulting in the deadly plunge.

Casualties and Injuries

According to local authorities, 19 passengers died at the scene, while two others succumbed to their injuries after being taken to the hospital. Approximately 45 additional passengers sustained injuries, with some in critical condition, receiving treatment at nearby medical facilities. Officials have reported that many victims suffered severe trauma, with fatalities attributed primarily to head injuries and internal bleeding.

Government Response

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his condolences through social media, emphasizing his sorrow for the victims’ families and wishing a speedy recovery for the injured. He announced that the government would provide financial assistance to the families affected by this horrific event.
