Initial reports indicate that 48 homes have been completely destroyed, with an additional 18 homes sustaining significant damage. Around 300 residents have been displaced and are receiving emergency support, including tents and basic necessities.

Luis Vasquez, the head of Peru’s National Civil Defense Institute, provided updates on the situation, highlighting a collective effort to assess the impact and provide relief to affected communities. "I deeply regret the consequences of the earthquake that occurred in Junin," President-elect Keiko Fujimori expressed in a social media statement. "I extend my heartfelt condolences to the families of the deceased and stand in solidarity with those affected."

In the town of Chupaca, approximately 300 kilometers east of Lima, many houses constructed from adobe bricks have succumbed to the seismic forces, a common construction method that increases vulnerability during earthquakes. Residents have described the situation as devastating, lamenting the loss of their homes. One local resident of Chongos Bajo stated to N television, "The earthquake destroyed our home. Many adobe houses here have collapsed."

As the region falls within the Pacific Ring of Fire, it is prone to seismic activity. The first earthquake was recorded at a depth of 24 kilometers (15 miles), followed by a second quake at a depth of 18 kilometers, illustrating the geological instability of the area.
