UFC 332 Highlights: A Night of Knockouts and Title Wins
In an electrifying event held at the Delta Center in Salt Lake City on October 3, UFC 332 showcased thrilling performances, highlighted by Imanol Rodríguez's first-round knockout and Natalia Silva's championship victory.
Imanol Rodríguez's Impressive Knockout
Imanol Rodríguez faced Alden Coria in a highly anticipated bout that saw the Mexican fighter maintain his unbeaten record. Just 3:11 into the first round, Rodríguez executed a precise body kick that floored Coria, leading to a technical knockout (TKO). This victory marks Rodríguez's second win in the UFC and brings his professional record to 8-0, with all victories coming before the final bell.
Rodríguez, who previously defeated Kevin Borjas in February, expressed his eagerness to take on more challenging opponents moving forward. He declared, "First, I will go after his friend, and then I'll go for him," referencing his connection to the current champion Joshua Van, who trains Coria. With this latest win, Rodríguez is eyeing a return to the Octagon in December against ranked competitors.
Following his victory, Rodríguez shared a moment with former champion Daniel Cormier, who had been his coach on The Ultimate Fighter 33. The fighter expressed gratitude for Cormier's support, stating, "Daniel Cormier, you are the best person in the world. Thank you for the support."
Natalia Silva Claims the Women's Flyweight Title
In the main event, Natalia Silva took home the vacant women’s flyweight title by defeating Wang Cong via unanimous decision, with judges scoring the match 48-47, 48-47, and 49-46. Silva's win marks her ninth consecutive victory in the UFC, and she showcased a well-rounded performance with effective striking and grappling.
Preparing for the altitude in Salt Lake City, Silva trained for a month in Mexico to enhance her stamina, a strategy that clearly paid off. The Brazilian fighter built an early lead with high kicks and counterstriking, successfully bringing down Wang during the second round. Although Wang adjusted well in the final rounds, landing powerful strikes and leg kicks, Silva maintained enough of an advantage to secure her championship.
The title was previously held by Valentina Shevchenko, who was unable to compete due to injuries, making this victory particularly significant.
Rapid-Fire Finishes Throughout the Card
UFC 332 was marked by several quick finishes besides the headline bouts. Payton Talbott defeated Deiveson Figueiredo with a knockout just 2:09 into the first round. This victory added another former champion to Talbott's resume, as he called out Sean O'Malley for his next fight.
Esteban Ribovics achieved a first-round victory over King Green at 4:08 minutes, while Roman Kopylov secured a stoppage against Ateba Gautier at 3:12 in the opening round. In contrast, Roberto Soldić had a longer night, going the distance to win a unanimous decision against Khaos Williams.
UFC 332 proved to be an exciting night for fight fans, with new names and champions emerging in a sport that continues to captivate audiences around the world.
