VAST Achieves Unicorn Status with $200 Million Funding Amid AI Boom

Chinese AI startup VAST has reached a $1.5 billion valuation after securing $200 million in funding, revolutionizing 3D modeling with its AI technology.

VAST Reaches Unicorn Status

VAST, a pioneering AI startup based in China, has made headlines after achieving unicorn status, boasting a valuation of approximately $1.5 billion. This milestone comes on the heels of a substantial funding round, which raised $200 million from prominent investors including INCE Capital, Genesis Capital, and Primavera Capital Group.

Rapid Growth and Funding Success

Founded in 2023 by 29-year-old Simon Song, who has been recognized in this year's Forbes 30 Under 30 Asia list, VAST specializes in transforming images and text into intricate 3D models. This innovative capability is powered by their cutting-edge Tripo AI platform, which significantly accelerates the content creation process.

The latest financing announcement, made on a Monday, follows an earlier Series A fundraising in March, where VAST raised $50 million led by Alibaba and Hengxu Capital at an undisclosed valuation.

Innovations in 3D Modeling

With these new funds, VAST plans to enhance its team through hiring and much-needed research and development. One of the most intriguing initiatives under this new funding is Project Eden, which aims to create interactive virtual environments. This initiative aligns with recent breakthroughs in the AI sector, where pioneers like Fei-Fei Li have also gained substantial investment for similar projects in spatial intelligence.

VAST's technology enables it to produce 3D models with remarkable detail and realism. Its Tripo AI service has evolved, now capable of generating life-like characters with cinematic quality, appealing both to large enterprises and individual users. The company is already maintaining working relationships with industry giants such as NetEase, a major Chinese gaming company, and Sony, the globally recognized entertainment brand.

Serving a Growing User Base

VAST currently serves approximately 20 million users globally, who utilize the Tripo AI platform for various applications including animation and industrial design. Subscription fees for services range from $20 to $140 a month, with most users located in the United States, Europe, and Japan. VAST's commitment to providing quality and innovative solutions is evident in its rapid growth and user engagement.

Song, an avid gamer who once worked as an assistant to Xu Li, co-founder of SenseTime, expresses his ambition to transform the gaming and creative industries with VAST’s technology. With a background in economics and international studies from Johns Hopkins University, his entrepreneurial journey continues as he reshapes the landscape of 3D content creation.

With the newfound funding, VAST is positioned to push boundaries in 3D modeling, challenging established paradigms within virtual environments and solidifying its place as a leader in the AI-driven technology space.
