According to a report from the Financial Times, Waymo has informed Uber of its intention to launch a standalone robotaxi service app in both Austin and Atlanta by January 2028. Given that the current contract allowing Waymo vehicles to run on the Uber platform is set to expire in May 2028, the timing of this announcement suggests a potential shift towards greater competition in the robotaxi space.
