AMC Theatres to Introduce Live Concert Screenings
AMC Theatres has announced an exciting new partnership with Arena One, a live entertainment technology company, allowing audiences to experience live concerts directly from the comfort of their local theaters. This initiative is set to kick off in June 2026 and aims to revolutionize the standard moviegoing experience by bringing real-time musical performances to the big screen.
Innovations in Live Entertainment
Beginning in June, music fans will have the opportunity to enjoy concerts featuring popular artists such as Bebe Rexha and Paris Hilton, broadcast live to over 300 AMC locations across the United States. Ticket prices for these events will range from $40 to $75, depending on the artist and specific market, providing an accessible yet premium entertainment option for concertgoers.
The concerts will utilize cutting-edge technology to connect the performing artists with their audiences. Sound from viewers in theaters nationwide will be transmitted back to the performers, creating an interactive experience akin to attending a live event. Peter Hamilton, CEO of Arena One, emphasized the uniqueness of this initiative, stating, "We built a cinematic stage optimized to translate seamlessly to cinemas, but artists are defining what it becomes."
Enhancing the Moviegoing Experience
AMC’s introduction of live concerts into its programming marks a significant step in diversifying its offerings. The company has previously showcased filmed concerts from major artists, such as Taylor Swift and Beyoncé, showcasing a commitment to musical content.
Adam Aron, CEO of AMC, noted that this partnership could reshape the landscape of live entertainment, allowing fans to come together for a shared experience in a communal setting. He stated, "Arena One at AMC has the potential to open an entirely new chapter in live entertainment."
A Response to Industry Challenges
This innovative approach comes as the domestic box office continues to recovery from the pandemic and its associated disruptions. AMC’s first-quarter report showed a revenue increase of 21% year-on-year, reaching $1.05 billion, although the company still faced significant operating losses, reporting a net loss of $117 million.
Despite the challenges, attendance is rising both domestically and internationally, with increases of 14% and almost 13%, respectively. The average ticket price has also seen a notable hike, reaching approximately $12.90 in the U.S. This reveals a growing resurgence in the industry and the potential demand for varied entertainment options.
As the music industry continues to adapt to new formats of engagement, AMC's venture into live concert screenings represents a promising avenue for revitalizing the theater experience, drawing music lovers back into theaters with a shared experience that unites them with audiences across the nation.
