Excitement Builds as Formula 1 Returns with Miami Grand Prix

F1 revs up in Miami, with teams rolling out substantial upgrades in pursuit of Mercedes dominance. The season's excitement resumes!

Formula 1 Resumes at Miami Grand Prix

The highly anticipated 2026 Formula 1 season resumes at the Miami Grand Prix following an unexpected five-week hiatus caused by cancelled races in Bahrain and Saudi Arabia. Teams are gearing up to debut significant car upgrades, leading to discussions of a potential shift in the competitive landscape, often described as the beginning of a 'new championship'.

What’s at Stake in Miami?

As the teams prepare for Miami, they hope to close the performance gap behind Mercedes, currently leading both the Drivers' and Constructors' Championships. Ferrari, who positioned themselves as legitimate challengers earlier in the season, is keen to demonstrate their advancements. Meanwhile, McLaren has announced substantial upgrades that could redefine their season after disappointing early results.

During this long break, teams were permitted to work on their cars without the usual restrictions seen during season breaks, allowing for extensive improvements and refinements. Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff recognized the upcoming Miami event as pivotal, stating, "Miami is going to be for me also a restart. How are the upgrades going to work...? It's going to be exciting."

Upgrades and New Regulations

Ferrari’s team principal, Frederic Vasseur, emphasized the meaning of this moment in the championship:
"Everyone will bring new upgrades to Miami... which is why I said a new championship will start.”

The teams have also been preparing for modifications to the regulations focused on optimizing drivers’ performance during qualifying and races. This will be evident during practice sessions, which are extended to 90 minutes to accommodate these updates and adjustments.

Championship Landscape

As the teams take to the track at the Miami International Autodrome, Mercedes reigns supreme, leading the championship standings with drivers Kimi Antonelli and George Russell holding first and second positions, respectively. With a total of three wins across the first three races of the season, Antonelli leads Russell by a notable margin.

Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc sits third in the standings, with reigning champions McLaren trailing significantly in third place. Meanwhile, teams like Red Bull, Haas, and Alpine are looking to capitalize on the extended break to refine their strategies and improve their performance when racing resumes.

What Lies Ahead

In the lead-up to the Miami GP, teams are anticipated to make substantial changes aiming not only to improve their performance but also to shake up the existing order of the championship.
Fans will not want to miss the excitement as the Miami GP unfolds, with practices, sprints, and qualifying sessions streamed live, showcasing the fierce competition and hope for newfound glory.

Tune in this weekend as Formula 1 returns and stays alive in the chase for supremacy among racing teams.
