Omaha Biliew Embarks on New Journey at Grand Canyon University

Former All-American Omaha Biliew transfers to Grand Canyon University, ready to make his mark under coach Bryce Drew.

Omaha Biliew's New Chapter Begins

Omaha Biliew, a standout from Iowa known for his exceptional high school basketball career, has set his sights on a fresh start at Grand Canyon University (GCU). The 6-foot-8 power forward transferred this offseason to play under the tutelage of head coach Bryce Drew, looking to build upon his experiences from previous collegiate stops at Iowa State and Wake Forest.

A Promising High School Career

Biliew made a name for himself while competing in Iowa high school basketball, earning accolades as a McDonald’s All-American. His journey began at Dowling Catholic High School, where he averaged over six points per game as a freshman. He later transferred to Waukee High School, where he flourished, boosting his scoring average to nearly 11 points, along with eight rebounds and three blocks during his sophomore year.

After a year at Link Year Prep in Branson, Missouri, Biliew returned to complete his high school career at Waukee, culminating in his participation in the prestigious McDonald’s All-American Game as a five-star recruit.

NCAA Experience: From the Big 12 to the ACC

Biliew's college journey started at Iowa State, where he chose the school over competing offers from Kansas and Oregon, even considering an NBA G-League path. After a season in Ames, he switched to Wake Forest, competing in the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC). In his sophomore season, Biliew played 13 games, and with 18 appearances this past year, he averaged career-high statistics of 5.7 points, 2.2 rebounds, and 19.2 minutes on the court.

Reflecting on his experience, Biliew expressed confidence: “This past year was probably my first time stepping on the court and getting a feel out there. It gave me a better feel for the college game at this level.”

Looking Forward: Impacting GCU

Now at Grand Canyon University, Biliew is eager to contribute to the team's success. Coach Drew praised him for his athleticism and his ability to stretch the floor with his shooting: “Omaha brings a lot of experience from playing in the ACC. We like his athleticism around the rim and his 3-point shooting.”

His performances in the postseason for Wake Forest showcased his potential, particularly during the NIT where he averaged 13 points and 4 rebounds per game, including an impressive 18-point, 10-rebound outing against North Carolina State.

“I’m a versatile, two-way player with a high motor,” Biliew said, emphasizing his commitment to energizing his teammates on both ends of the floor.

Biliew's transfer marks an exciting new chapter as he aims to leave a lasting legacy at Grand Canyon University, the highest-rated recruit in the school's history.
