Steve Bisciotti Makes Historic NFL Draft Selection for Ravens

Baltimore Ravens owner Steve Bisciotti made his first-ever draft pick, choosing Clemson's Adam Randall with the 174th overall selection.

Steve Bisciotti Makes His First NFL Draft Pick

In a significant departure from being hands-off, Baltimore Ravens owner Steve Bisciotti made history by participating in the NFL Draft for the first time since becoming majority owner in 2004. This year, he seized the opportunity to select Clemson running back Adam Randall with the 174th overall pick. General manager Eric DeCosta welcomed this involvement, allowing Bisciotti to choose from the Ravens' ample draft picks, which numbered 11—among the highest in the league.

Bisciotti's Involvement

Bisciotti is not known for overstepping into team operations, often allowing DeCosta and his team autonomy in managing player acquisitions. However, his passion for football and the draft process prompted him to take a more active role this year. "When we were down in Florida, Steve was begging for a draft pick, and he owns the team," DeCosta shared. It was this spirited enthusiasm that led to Bisciotti making his debut draft pick.

Who is Adam Randall?

Adam Randall, known for his versatility, is expected to enhance the Ravens' backfield dynamics significantly. A former wide receiver who transitioned to running back, Randall achieved impressive stats during his final season, recording 168 carries for 814 rushing yards and 10 touchdowns, along with 84 receptions for 787 receiving yards over his collegiate career.

"He has a varied skill set and does many things well," expressed DeCosta regarding Randall's potential. Considering he made the position switch relatively late in his college career, Randall also comes with fresher legs than most prospects.

A Potential Diamond in the Rough

Despite a consensus among analysts that this year's running back class was weak apart from a few top-tier players, Randall stands out as a capable prospect. As the Ravens gear up for the upcoming season, he is already drawing parallels to five-time Pro Bowler and future Hall of Famer Derrick Henry, who joined the Ravens two seasons ago and had impressive seasons leading the team in rushing. Randall expressed excitement about his role, stating,
"We’re going to do some damage with all three of us in the backfield. I think my receiving ability out of the backfield makes me a matchup nightmare.”

In the context of a franchise that values teamwork, Bisciotti's involvement this draft season marks a notable moment in Ravens history, illustrating his commitment to fostering success and participation in the team’s strategic decisions.
